Landings 2021

Future Exhibition

As part of Landings 2021, The Long Exposure are curating a sub-exhibition called “What Happened Next?”, that will consists of work from students (both past and present) on the BA and MA courses at Falmouth University.

Inspired by a quote from a play by writer Don DeLillo, we are seeking single images from current and past students of photography at Falmouth University.

The online and pop-up exhibitions will happen in the week commencing 6th August 2021 and the full brief for the submission for exciting sub-exhibition can be found below.

Exhibition details to be announced at a later date.

What Happened Next?

An open photographic call.

The Long Exposure is asking for contributors to send a single image inspired by the idea of What Happened Next?

Extract from the play “Valparaiso” by Don DeLillo

Interviewer:            What?

Michael:                 I didn’t say anything?

Interviewer:            I said something. I said what. What happened next?

The Brief

We are looking for contributors to channel their experiences, thoughts and feelings, their dreams and actions, their obstacles and their journeys of the past 15 months into the creation of a new single image.

We are asking contributors to find a new positivity and hope as we emerge into this new normal.

What has changed for you? What direction will you be heading?

Throughout 2020, and into 2021, we have spent time and space outside of our comfort zones. Our lives, our work, our plans, our very existence has been challenged. Some have found this period to be inspiring, some have not. Some lives have been deeply affected by loss and turmoil, while others have gained new practices and ways of working.

The Long Exposure is seeking work from contributors who have reflected on the past but who are looking to the future.

How are you considering the future? What has changed in your world?

Your created work can be anything: a photograph, drawing, painting, graphic, text. Our only requirement is that the outcome needs to be of a postcard size (148mm x 105mm) which is to be sent to us digitally.

Your Submission

We would like participants to send us a single image as a POSTCARD SIZE IMAGE (A6 (148mm x 105mm).

Once we have received the images, The Long Exposure Curating Team will then:

1) Create an online exhibition of the images on our dedicated website which will be available for the next 12 months

2) The Curating Team will then print off the images for several pop-exhibitions within specific found space, discovered by the curating team. These short-lived exhibitions will be documented by the team and the outcomes presented on the website (thelongexposure.co.uk)

3) Copyright for the work remains with the Submitter / Creator

4) Your work will be shared on our social media in order to promote Landings 2021, Photography at Falmouth University and the sub-exhibition “What Happened Next?”

Please send your submissions by 31st July 2021 by email to or Tim Stubbs Hughes at

Please include with your submission:

+ Name

+ Title of Work (if there is one)
